North Carolina continues to suffer the consequences of it's backwards "Bathroom Law".

Let's start at the beginning. The city of Charlotte passed an ordinance to protect the LGBT community. The state legislature then  threw a fit and passed a law that prevented anyone from having such an ordinance. Yes, you got that right. One city wanted to move forward, so the state took two steps backwards.

Bands from Boston to Pearl Jam, Springsteen to Ringo Starr have cancelled shows. It isn't just bands and sports either. Acts as varied as Cirque Du Soleil and comedian Tracy Morgan have cancelled appearances.  A few artists have performed, but staged protest moments during their shows or encouraged crowds to sign petitions to repeal the laws.  I guess I should also point out that several business planning to move to or expand have cancelled their plans. At least one movie shoot was cancelled as well.

This past week the NCAA pulled seven championships out of North Carolina and now the ACC is also moving its championship out of the state. It's the right thing to do.

It should be pretty obvious at this point that if North Carolina wants to live as a backwards state, there's plenty of people willing to let them. They can have their way, but they can't have our dollars. That money will go to states that support diversity. We don't have to drag them into this century, but we don't have to let them drag us back. So kudos to the NCAA and ACC on moving their events. There are a great many sports stars and support staff that are members of the LGBT community and they shouldn't be forced to comply with this archaic and oppressive law.
