New Mexico State Police released additional information regarding an officer-involved shooting in Clovis.

The incident occurred on October 8th around 12:30 a.m., when Clovis Police officers responded to a stolen vehicle report. According to police, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, driven by Aaron Joseph Chavez. Chavez fled the vehicle and led officers on a foot chase.

During the chase, an officer stated that Chavez had something in his hands, and that’s when Chavez pulled a knife on an officer. The officer fired four shots, killing Chavez.

After the incident, police discovered the knife had a chainsaw blade attached to it.

The incident is still under investigation.
