Let me just say this loud and clear before we go on: a government agency will not call you and demand you to make a payment for anything over the phone. Not the IRS, and not the Sheriff's department.

The LSO has issued a warning that a scammer is calling from the numbers (806) 200-1896 and (806) 370-1980. The scam works by making you panic that you'll be arrested for a outstanding warrant, then giving you directions to pay over the phone. NEVER believe calls like this.

This is actually a very common scam. If you get a call like this, hang up. If you're worried you might have an actual warrant, you can call the sheriff's department at (806) 775-1400. There's always the possibility that they might not tell you if you do or not. If this happens, contact your attorney.
