A new study proves what many already suspected — if a blonde, a redhead and a brunette walk into a bar, the blonde will indeed get more male attention. But not for the reasons you might think.

While other studies have shown blondes are paid more by employers, marry wealthier men and are perceived to be prettier, healthier and more youthful overall, the Scandinavian Journal of Psychology went one step further and asked men to rate photos of the same woman with all three hair colors to find out why.

Befitting the old stereotype, the redhead was thought to be “more temperamental,” but surprisingly, the guys said the brunette was “more attractive, intelligent, approachable, competent and arrogant” than her flaxen-haired counterpart.

So why did the blonde get the lion’s share of attention?

Simply put, the men felt she was “needier,” and thus more promiscuous. Seems they subscribe to the theory that blondes do indeed have more fun after all.
