No. 13 Red Raiders Host New Mexico State in Midweek Series
After being swept by Cal State Fullerton and falling to 13 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association poll, the Texas Tech baseball team returns to action with a two-game midweek series against New Mexico State.
Sophomore left-hander Ty Damron (2-0 3.95 ERA) will get the start on the mound for Tim Tadlock's crew.
The Red Raiders (10-4) lead the all-time series 44-17 and swept a four-game series from the Aggies a year ago in Lubbock while out-scoring NMSU, 42-16.
The Aggies (1-12) are led by first-year head coach Brian Green who graduated from NMSU in 1995 and is coming off six seasons as an assistant coach at Kentucky. NMSU knocked off Incarnate Word (8-7) on Feb. 28 while having played nine games this season decided by four or fewer runs.
Tech leads Big 12 in batting (.300), doubles (38) and on-base percentage (.388). First baseman Eric Gutieerez leads with a .333 average and seven doubles.
First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
