The No. 2 TCU Horned Frogs had to fight and claw their way out of Lubbock with a 55-52 win over the upstart Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock on Saturday evening.

The back and forth affair showed eleven lead changes in the Big 12 Conference opener for both schools which featured 107 points scored and over 1200 yards of total offense between the schools.

TCU struck first in the game scoring with Trevone Boykin connecting with Jonathan Doctson for a 9 yard touchdown pass. Boykin and Doctson would connect for 18 receptions for 267 yards and 3 touchdowns in the contest.

Tech would comeback and score on a 1 yard touchdown run to tie the game up at 7 midway through the 1st quarter. The teams would end up combining for 30 points in the first quarter with the Horned Frogs leading 55-52.

The Red Raiders would take the lead in the contest at 21-16 thanks to a Patrick Mahomes 44-yard bomb to Jakeem Grant. Mahomes completed 25 of his 45 pass attempts for 392 yards and 2 touchdowns in the game. Grant finished with 8 catches for 126 yards and a score. The Red Raiders would trail at halftime 33-28.

The Texas Tech defense forced a three-and-out on the TCU offense and drove the ball down the field for another DeAndre Washington Touchdown run from 2 yards out. Washington would finish the night rushing 22 times for 186 yards and 4 touchdowns in the games.

After exchanging leads and scores in the second half the Red Raiders would take a 52-48 lead over the Horned Frogs on a 50-yard catch and run from Mahomes to Justin Stockton with 5:55 left in the contest.

TCU and Tech would exchange punts in the ensuing drives and the Frogs would drive 53 yards in the final 3:22 of the game to score on 4th and goal from the 4 on a miracle tipped pass in the end zone.

The Red Raiders almost had a miracle play of their own with several laterals until Jakeem Grant was forced out of bound with no time left on a un-timed down after a roughing the passer call on TCU.
