"NOLA: Life, Death, & Heavy Blues From The Bayou" episode 3 features Jimmy Boyer of eyehategod and talks about the roots of the of sound of NOLA.

According to Philip H. Anselmo when asked what the sound of NOLA is, his response was Jimmy Boyer. Jimmy Boyer.

Jimmy Boyer is a guitarist/drummer that has played with Eyehategod and Down. I love this episode, Jimmy Boyer talks about the roots of the music that started in NOLA that involved the slave trade. It is very interesting to me that the influence from one of the most awful times in American History (slavery) can still have such a influence on the music of today.
