A recent study reveals the top 10 worst cities in the United States for car theft. The only city in Texas to make the list is Odessa, Texas.

Seven of the top 10 worst cities for car theft are in California. This is mostly attributable to California having the most cars per capita and the state's climate, which allows cars to remain in better condition.

The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellvue area in Washington came in at no. 8, and Spokane, Washington came in at number 6.

Odessa ranking at number four is attributed to the influx of people into the area seeking work in the oil field industry. Cars are worth more money in that area, which are easy targets for theft.

Below are the top 5 ways, according to Car & Driver, to avoid your car getting broken into and/or stolen.

Keep your car in your garage

If you're away from home, park in a public place. Don't park in a secluded parking spot. That will only give the thief privacy.
