Pat Knight And The Lamar Cardinals Set To Go Dancing
After knocking off the McNeese State Cowboys in Katy, Texas, the Lamar Cardinals are Southland Conference champions and an automatic bid the NCAA Tournament.
Former Texas Tech Red Raider head coach Pat Knight, son of legendary Bob Knight, proved his worth to Beaumont, Lamar University and his team after his first year at the helm. Coach Knight said after the 70-49 victory that his kids would "remember this for the rest of their lives" and that he knew that his kids could do it because "they're not soft players."
The players responded to Knight's scorn from February 22, where Knight says he "threw [his] kids under the bus and [Coach Knight] was driving the bus." The six seniors took the message to heart and responded valiantly, playing an astounding tournament to earn a Big Dance berth.
The Lamar Cardinals will take on the Vermont Catamounts with a chance to face North Carolina on Friday if they win.
