Recently fired Texas Tech basketball coach Pat Knight has been named the head coach at Lamar University in Beaumont. The announcement will come later this afternoon when Pat will be introduced as the head coach for the Cardinals.

Pat got the job after being named one of eight finalists for the job. Knight beat out Lamar assistant Tic Price, Lamar State College coach Matt Cross, Houston Assistant Alvin Brooks, Jones County Junior College coach Don Skelton, Memphis assistant Glynn Cyprien, Central Oklahoma head coach Terry Evans and Oral Roberts assistant Chris Crutchfield.

Knight spent just over 3 seasons at Texas Tech as the head coach where he complied a 39–43 career record. He took over the head coaching position for the Red Raiders after his father, Bob Knight, resigned during the 07-08 season. Pat was also an assistant coach at Texas Tech for 6 previous seasons and was also an assistant at Indiana.

Knight was a class act during his final weeks at Texas Tech. Knight even suggested and gave praise to newly named Texas Tech basketball coach Billy Gillispie.
