After some initial recording that took place last year, Pearl Jam have returned to the studio to begin fleshing out their tenth studio album.

Pearl Jam spent a good portion of 2011 in full-on nostalgia mode with the PJ20 weekend festival in Alpine Valley, Wis., and the release of the Cameron Crowe documentary ‘Pearl Jam Twenty.’ Even with all the reflection, PJ have made sure to stay focused on the future. “I feel like we have to keep our eyes on the road,” Eddie Vedder told Rolling Stone last June. “Being nostalgic is like taking an offramp and getting a sandwich – and then you get back on the highway. I don’t want to be spending the rest of my life at the gas station.”

A previous update from bassist Jeff Ament indicated that last year’s sessions for the band’s new album went well and that they were at least “halfway done.” The sessions even spawned the bilingual-rocker ‘Ole,’ which the band distributed for free via their website. The new album had been placed on hold while the members toured and worked on other projects, but a new report says Pearl Jam has officially re-entered the studio.

“We started yesterday,” guitarist Mike McCready told OC Weekly last Friday. “We’re in the process of everyone bringing their demos and getting their songs out there.” Pearl Jam are recording the new album with producer Brendan O’ Brien, who produced all of their previous albums with the exception of ‘Ten,’ ‘Binaural,’ ‘Riot Act,’ and ‘Pearl Jam.’

Pearl Jam have set some European tour dates for this summer and frontman Eddie Vedder has also announced his first solo tour overseas. Click here for a list of dates. Drummer Matt Cameron will also be touring with Soundgarden, who will release their first new album since 1996′s ‘Down on the Upside’ later this year.
