We all know that fall is the pumpkin time of year. We have our pumpkin lattes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread and so on. But did you know that pumpkins are as beneficial to your eye health as carrots?

We talked to Brenda Duby with the United Supermarket families, and she told us that the beta carotene in pumpkins is just as high, if not higher, than carrots, which benefits our eye health.

Pumpkins are also high in fiber. When used either from the pumpkin or bought in a can, it's great for you. (Just make sure you get pure pumpkin in the can to avoid the sugar in the pie filling.)

Duby also suggested getting the pumpkin-crusted chicken at Market Street, or pumpkin bark, which is dark chocolate of pumpkin seeds. Just watch your portion size.

Other great pumpkin-based foods that are now available are pumpkin cream cheese, pumpkin butter and pumpkin cookies.

So, grab a big, beautiful pumpkin, enjoy it for the health benefits and for a great jack-o-lantern for your front porch!
