The Punisher wasn’t part of Netflix’s original Defenders plan, and as such, won’t get to join the Claire Temple club. Rosario Dawson confirms that her Marvel-ous fan-favorite nurse won’t make the requisite crossover with Frank Castle’s spinoff.

Dawson confirmed as much in an interview with Collider, noting that schedule conflicts were also among the reasons Claire never called Matt during the events of Iron Fist. Either way, it looks as if Frank will be tending to his own wounds (or rather toughing it out) for the undated spinoff:

At the end of the day, it’s really hard to get all of those casts together. For The Defenders, it was difficult to get everybody together. People are busy! There are so many times where I really want it to happen. I really wanted to do a cameo on The Punisher, but it doesn’t always work that way.

At the very least, Punisher will have its own Daredevil crossover of sorts with Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page. We’d also guess it unlikely that Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle pops up in The Defenders, given both were separately finishing up production in recent weeks.

Marvel has yet to come forth with a 2017 Punisher premiere beyond The DefendersAugust bow, but will Frank Castle manage without Claire Temple? Can we get someone else with a structural surname?
