News broke today that Baker Mayfield, walk-on sensation that went 5-0 in his first five starts of the year, has decided that he wants to play ball somewhere else.

Interestingly enough, this news broke just hours after Mayfield received that award for 2013 Offensive Freshman of the Year for the Big 12.

Mayfield said there was some kind of "miscommunication" between he and the coaching staff, but mum's the word on what this discord is all about.

The true freshman walk-on came in late to the Texas Tech program and took the reins as the starter in time for the opener against SMU. From there, he proved he deserved that spot until a knee injury coupled with some unrefined play caused Davis Webb to make his freshman debut.

Moving forward, Tech has Davis Webb and Michael Brewer as signal callers, so I'm not exactly writing home about this one. When there's an abundance of talent, especially at the quarterback position, things change. Period.

We'll see where Mayfield goes, and how Tech copes without him in the upcoming National University Holiday Bowl on the 30th against #14 Arizona State.
