One church in Lubbock is responding to the humanitarian crisis involving refugees from the Middle East this weekend with a collection of donated items.

Redeemer Church of Lubbock, located at 6402 Elgin Ave, will take a collection of clothing and other tangible items for the refugees this Sunday, September 13 at all three of their worship services. Service times are at 9:15 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

"Although this large-scale issue cannot be solved overnight, we do want to serve and care for our Syrian neighbors in a very tangible way," said Redeemer Pastor Jason Davila.

Items needed for donation are:

- Blankets (high priority)
- Sneakers and shoes for men, women and children (all sizes)
- Sweatpants (all sizes)
- Underwear for men, women and children (all sizes)
- Men’s trousers (all sizes)
- Diapers
- Sleeping bags
- Tents/tarpaulin
- Mats (camping or yoga mats)
- Hats and caps (all sizes)
- Shipping boxes
- Packing tape
- Cash donations (to help with shipping costs)
- Donations can also be made through World Relief
- Arabic Bibles

The war in Syria has spread into Iraq and has displaced millions of people from their homes since the conflict began in 2011. There are hundreds of thousands currently trying to enter parts of Europe and hundreds of thousands trying to flee their countries have died while crossing over the Mediterranean Sea and overland.
