David Lee Roth visited Lubbock with a band of hotshots in 2000 and delivered an EPIC show.

Roth played at South Beach (I believe that was the name at the time) which was attached to the Depot Warehouse. The show had every reason to suck. The minute you hit the front doors there was a message that all cameras would be confiscated. The rumor was that Dave didn't want anyone taking pictures of his hair.  The place was full, but it wasn't a sell out.

Dave's band was rumored to be a Van Halen cover band, that he just picked up for the tour. Dave hit the stage and just ruled it. He hit all the notes, the band wailed and Dave played some great deep cuts like "Little Dreamer" from the first Van Halen album. Dave wasn't as cheesy as he is now, he was still a pretty hardcore rock guy, instead of the vaudeville like delivery he does now.

I waited by the side of the stage after the show to see if Dave was going to come out and sign a few autographs. A roadie came out and said Dave would not be coming out. That roadie was obviously with the Roth organization and saw the book that I had. He said he'd take it backstage to get it autographed. I waited something like less than two minutes and David Lee Roth himself brought the book back to me. It was a pretty cool moment for a guy who had worshiped Van Halen for decades.  Here's the inscription.
