Does it seem like the world is getting to be a meaner place? Well look no farther than some of the knuckle-dragging homophobes running for Congress District 19.

The question in their recent "debate" (which was more of a hate-bate) at a local church was: "What is your moral conviction on the matter of gender choice?"

Now, there are a million ways to respond to this question without agreeing on the matter. But instead, candidate Dr. Donald May kicked off the Haterade-chugging contest with this gem: "We need to protect the public from them" and "They should not be allowed to use washroom, showers and so forth, they should have private facilities."

Not to be outdone, Jason Corley said: "It's a mental disorder that someone should seek treatment for."

Let's start with this. Cases of transgender people abusing straight people are rare. However, cases of church people and congressmen committing acts of sexual deviancy are commonplace.

As a result, I could easily say no one who is narcissistic enough to run for public office should ever be allowed to go to a restroom with minors in it; they just can't be trusted. Church officials also should never be allowed to be alone with youth groups because of reports of past abuse.

Now, none of that sounded good, did it? Well, that's the same box these candidates at this church forum tried to put transgender people in. The problem is, there's much more proof of straight people abusing other people then there are of transgender people hurting anyone.

My question to all of you is: When are you going to get mad? You do realize that if they ever get their way oppressing these people, they're going to move right down the ladder until they get to you? You want less government? Then keep the government out of people's private lives. We do not need hateful leaders.
