We are going to throw this one way back to 2006, before I was on the air for FMX and it was announced that Alice In Chains would be coming to Lubbock and they would be bringing with them a band called Hurt.

I remember being pretty stoked to get a chance to see Alice In Chains even if it was without vocalist Layne Staley. Now if I can remember this was the first time that AIC came to Lubbock with new vocalist William Duvall. I had talked to my Dad in Iowa who had seen Jerry Cantrell and William Duvall perform together but not as Alice In Chains and the story my Dad told me was that He and my Step Mom were up in the balcony watching the show when Jerry Cantrell leaned back and spit straight up in the air and then got crazy mad because someone was spitting on him from the top of the balcony. Dad swears that the spit that made an appearance came straight from Jerry Cantrell. Anyways Dad said it was a show worth checking out.

So I made way to Jake's because Driver was doing a live remote and Hurt the opening band would be doing an acoustic set at Hasting's right next door when it was open. The acoustic set was pretty sweet and there was only literally 10 people there to checkout Hurt but that didn't affect them at all.

I also remember bumping back into Driver and Wes when I got to The Pavilion and we chatted just for a second on how awesome the acoustic performance was from Hurt.

When Hurt came out on stage it was a pretty sick set from what I remember and we all were so stoked to get to see Alice In Chains. AIC went straight to work opening with "Again" and it didn't seem very long after that maybe 20 minutes or so, we saw Jerry Cantrell walk off stage and he wasn't very happy. The crowd just kind of stood there for about 10 minutes before we realized that AIC wasn't coming back. And there was a bunch of not very happy people and rightfully so, Jerry Cantrell did what he does, without apology or even a middle finger he just left.

That ended the AIC part in Lubbock I do believe but what had happened was the door was left wide open for Hurt and for the next several years Lubbock welcomed Hurt every single time and Hurt loved to come back every single time.
