Saving Abel is a Lubbock favorite and has been for years. So when I heard they were going to be at the 4B Bike And Music Fest, I had to get them on the phone. So I did.

These guys roll through Lubbock at least once a year it seems and always have a great time. They always hang out and party with us and we're happy to have them back.

So I got Scott Bartlett, their guitarist, on the phone. We talked a bunch about their "Make America Rock Again!" tour, which features a killer lineup including Trapt, Saliva, Alien Ant Farm, Crazytown and more.

"The sentiment behind it was, there's a lot of bands from around the same time that had pretty big success at radio," said Bartlett. "And the game kinda changed along the way, and we're bands that have had hits and we've been trying to have more hits."

According to Bartlett, Saving Abel and the other bands on the "Make America Rock Again!" tour now own themselves and aren't indebted to a record label.

"We're all completely self-contained...that's kinda what rock and roll is all about, right? 'I don't answer to you, this is our thing,'" he said.

Bartlett explained that by banding together, Saving Abel and the rest of the tour lineup hope to compete in the tough modern ticket-selling era.
