Do you realize that people are living longer than ever before? Know why that is? It's because of science. We've learned to not do stupid stuff that kills us earlier. We've learned preventative medicine and how to put safety guards on machines so our arms don't get ripped off.

This is why I find State Senator Charles Perry's stance on improved water standards completely anti-intellectual, dangerous and asinine.

At issue are new EPA regulations that require less arsenic in your water. Perry's stance is this: if it didn't kill us over the last 30 years, then it won't kill us tomorrow. In other words 'good enough.'

Well bozo, the issue wouldn't have been brought up if it wasn't harmful. You know lap belts in cars were "good enough" before shoulder belts were introduced, saving tens of thousands of lives. (I could literally write a thousand examples here to further prove my point, but I'm not going to bore you.)

Perry has taken the ridiculous stance that these EPA regulations are just punishing Texas and that they are only being put in place because it's easier for them to test the levels now.

You know what you get with too much arsenic in your water? How about a big glass of cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other problems?

Apparently, Denver City, Seagraves and Wolfforth have a bit of a problem cleaning their water up, which requires some costly processes. But how about you pull some folks out there aside and tell them they're going to have to get cancer because the current standards are 'good enough.'

What kind of backwards-ass leadership have we elected when they can't even get something as basic as safe drinking water right?

The current science says arsenic is bad for you. I bet if I put two glasses of water in front of the Senator Perry with different amounts of arsenic in each, he'd drink the one with less arsenic. That should be an option for all Texans.
