In a recent editorial blog, Mirriam-Webster talked about marijuana slang being brought in from the periphery as prohibition on the substance continues to fade.

One word in particular the dictionary said they are monitoring is budtender, or the marijuana version of a bartender. They reported budtender was nominated in the “most useful” category in the 2014 American Dialect Society Word of the Year awards.

Although budtender is not yet listed in Mirriam-Webster, other pot terminology such as “bong” “joint” and “doobie” are defined. Pot is defined as slang for marijuana. However, it is offset completely from other uses of the word as a noun.

Should slang terminology be added to Mirriam-Webster? We want to know what you think. Comment below.
