I passed a family holding "funeral donations" signs this past Saturday. Just now I saw yet another fundraiser online. It seems to me that there needs to be more options to deal with the dead.

My beliefs are simple. When you're dead, you're dead and nothing matters anymore. I don't see any reason for a casket, a headstone or a service. Just put me in the cremation machine and put the ashes anywhere, including the landfill. I was just talking about this with a friend the other day, I can't think of a religious verse that says you have to be buried in a pretty box while your friends tell stories about you.  I'd much rather the disposal of my remains be taken care of quickly, while my friends sit at a table at their house doing shots and talking about me or whatever.

Anyways, it just seems like such a rough burden for a family to have to bear. They have to come up with a load of cash when they are at their absolute lowest. There should be a no-cost option at these times. Notice how I said no-cost rather than free.  I say it this way because disposing of bodies is also a big health issue.  It's not like there are just dead bodies laying around everywhere, but if they are disposed of efficiently then everybody wins. Even with today's traditional "paupers graves", a cheap box is used and land is used up for disposal. If your willing to go to ash, then you're doing everybody a favor.  Yeah, I'm saying socialized cremation. It benefits the planet and could really help struggling families.  If they really feel that a casket is a chariot that takes their loved ones to heaven, then they can just start saving for that now.
