I hope by this time you've learned not to read stuff that you know is going to make you mad. Me, sometimes I have to. It's part of my job to comment on the stuff that catches my eye. Still, I have avoided the video blogs of that busted 80s youth minister guy who always wears a backward red hat.

Well today, I went against my own policy because I could not believe that this guy was calling for something so utterly, completely pointless and stupid.

Apparently each year the Starbucks red cup ushers in the holidays. This year's cup features a complete lack of Christmas imagery and is instead plain red.

This has caused some Christian conservatives to lose their damn minds and claim that Starbucks is trying to whitewash over Christmas.

Personally, I still see a red cup with a white and green emblem, and if those three colors don't say "Christmas" than I don't know what does.

So anyways, this Fred Durst wannabe guy wants people to go into Starbucks and protest their decision by, get this, going in and buying coffee and when they ask for your name, tell them Merry Christmas so they have to call out Merry Christmas when your coffee is ready. Anybody else see a flaw in this guy's plan?

First off, you're giving Starbucks your money (not exactly the best way to tell a business you're not satisfied with one of their practices), and second, you're not making any point whatsoever. At the absolute worst, you might, and just maybe depending on where you live, be annoying a bored barista.

Oh, the guy also carried his gun into a Starbucks because the company doesn't like open carry...or something. So, I guess "annoying people for Jesus" is now a thing? What happened to "WWJD"? I doubt being obnoxious to people just trying to make a living was ever high on the list of things that Jesus would do.

You know there is a parallel here. This guy wants you to give your money to his "enemy" to protest and maybe make a little scene. Myself, I haven't been in a certain chicken place in a couple years. Here's the outcome: neither company gives a crap. They are indeed too big to care. The difference is, I don't go out of my way to be a jerk to the employees of the people I don't like.

Whether you're religious or not, you're starting the season on the wrong note if you're pissed off about a cup that no one is forcing you to buy at a coffee shop you can choose not to patronize.

Enjoy your red cups and enjoy your Christmas, too. Happy Christmas, Happy Holidays and I hope you have a cool yule no matter how you chose to celebrate.
