Watch the Bonkers ‘American Gods’ Opening Credits Right Now

Starz American Gods Opening Credits
Starz

If the trailers hadn’t clued them in, viewers of Starz’s American Gods are in for one gorgeously trippy experience. That’s no more apparent than with the full opening credits, available to view a full month before the April premiere.

Created by Elastic, the new sneak peek “pairs Old and New God relics in a totem of gigantic proportions.” You can watch below, and hear what co-showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green had to say of its absurd visuals:

Is it strange to want action figures from a main title sequence? Crucified astronauts, neon cowboys and S&M centaurs, we bow to Elastic and their spectacular vision. A totem of godly visions we didn’t know we needed to worship until they showed us the light with this clarion call to the ‘American Gods.’

For those unfamiliar with Sandman creator Neil Gaiman’s novel, so reads the Starz American Gods synopsis:

“American Gods” posits a different kind of war brewing—one between Old Gods and New. The traditional Old Gods, with mythological roots from around the world, fear irrelevance as their believers die off or are seduced by the money, technology, and celebrity offered by the New Gods. Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) is an ex-con who, left adrift by the recent death of his wife, becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to conman Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). But in truth, Mr. Wednesday is a powerful old deity, on a cross-country mission to build an army and reclaim his lost glory.

In addition to Corbin Bernsen as Vulcan, Kristin Chenoweth as Easter, Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney, Gillian Anderson as Media, Crispin Glover as Mr. World, Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy, Dane Cook as Robbie, Jonathan Tucker as Low-Key Lyesmith, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis and Bruce Langley as “Technical Boy,” Gods features The 100 star Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane as Mr. Wednedsay and Emily Browning as Shadow’s wife Laura Moon.

We’ll likely see more soon, but watch the first American Gods trailers below, and stay tuned for the April 30 premiere.
