Are you aware that Texas spent 10 Million Dollars pee testing high school football players? Did you know out of 30,000 kids tested they caught 11.  11. Yes, 11.  Ten million dollars to catch 11 kids cheating.

Fortunately Texas legislators defunded the steroid testing program last Friday. Programs to test welfare recipients for drugs fare even worse. In fact, after a lawsuit and such poor results (meaning they caught very few people) Florida has dropped their program entirely. It appears Texas is going to throw away a bunch of money on a similar program. This is just nonsense legislation meant to distract you from real issues.  It's what they call "feel good" legislation, because you think you're doing the right thing, even though nothing is really going to happen. Think about it, the reason people say they want welfare recipients tested is because "my money shouldn't have to pay for their habit", yet it costs you tons and tons more cash to find the very few who are cheating the system.  So if you want it to happen because you want to punish the abusers, you're getting a pretty lousy deal on the process. Your money would probably be better spent on policing, hoping the cops would catch up with the crooks.  Cheaters are going to cheat and they are probably even cheating the tests that they are given, but you have to look at costs versus results, and drug testing is just not cost effective by any means.
