So long to any thoughts about America being "the best and the brightest". As a state Texas fares even worse.  A new map compares how smart each state is compared with other countries.

Facts are a funny thing. They remain true whether you believe them or not. Due to the knuckleheadedness of some folks, facts have to be portrayed in different ways or with funny pictures in order to get the point across.  According to this new map, the average education in Texas is no better than one in Turkey.  Yes, your kid is getting no more smarts than they are in the country that is bordered by Iraq, Syria, Armenia, Bulgaria, and others.  Now that you feel like you've been slapped in the face, how about a kick in the crotch?  The majority of Turkey's population is Sunni Muslim.  Now none of this is meant to demean Turkey or it's Muslim population, it's to show that America has cut it's education levels to a level easily achievable in a middle-east country.  Our neighbors to the northeast in Oklahoma have the same education level as those in Syria and in New Mexico their education is on par with Albania.

Now, let's not blame "common-core" or a lack of the famous "three r's". The problem is that funding for education keeps getting cut. It's simple, the states and countries that spend the most on education have smarter people. Among other places, you can see proof of this as the Yankees or the northeast and the "dope-smokers" (who have a lot of pot tax dollars to spend) of Colorado have educational systems that far outperform the rest of the U.S. Funny, I don't hear any of our current crop of local, regional, or national candidates even talking about education either. Here's a real problem that is easy to solve and no one wants to step up.
