United Van Lines just released its annual report on which states had the most people move in and out of in 2014.

According to the latest report from United Van Lines, Texas is number 7 on the list for inbound states (which means more people moved in rather than out). Oregon took the top spot for the second year in a row, followed by South Carolina, North Carolina, Vermont and Florida to round out the top 5.

At the bottom was New Jersey. Around 65 percent of the moves involving New Jersey were LEAVING the state. The rest of the bottom five were New York, Illinois, my home state of North Dakota and West Virginia.

Some of these moves are weather-related (North Dakota), but others are more economically-based. Texas seems to still have a strong economy, warm weather (mostly!) and some of the lower gas prices in the country.

The overall pattern seems to show people are growing tired of the big city life and moving to more wide open spaces like Texas, Colorado, Oregon, Idaho and Nevada.
