Texas is number one in the U.S. and leads the developed world in an embarrassing statistic: pregnant women are more likely to die here.

Between 2010 and 2014, the mortality rate doubled and now eclipses countries like Chile and Turkey.

There are any number of conclusions that one could come to here, but we obviously have a serious lack of women's health care. Some place the blame on budget cuts, while others on restrictions put in place by the state. Those claims have not been proven, but the why doesn't change the fact that the deaths are happening.

No matter what the cause, we need to change the result. This item needs to be a top legislative priority instead of the non-problems currently being addressed.
