Get ready for this. I'm about to lay out the most controversial opinion on campus carry ever.

As of Monday, students at Texas Tech and other state institutions can conceal carry their guns in most areas.

My opinion on Campus Carry is: Who cares? It's unfortunate if you feel strongly one way or another, but it's here and likely to stay. If you don't want to be around guns on campus, head to a private college. Sorry, but that's the situation you're in, that's the government you voted for (or should have voted against, if you prefer).

So is it fair to campus cops, who now have to decide who the bad guy in a situation is? Probably not. Is it fair to people who'd rather not have guns on campus? Probably not. But it just doesn't matter. Will it result in more on-campus shootings? Who knows? It's highly unlikely that it's going to scare off any would-be campus shooters, and at the worst could result in a few accidents with inexperienced handgun owners.

The only way to change something like this is to do it economically. As I mentioned, I really don't care if it's allowed or not. I will say this, though. When it's time for my granddaughter to go to college, she'll probably opt for a handgun-free campus.

So with the cost of college running about $32,000 a school year, allowing guns on state campuses just cost Texas $128,000 of my money. I also seriously doubt anyone will come to college in Texas for the sole reason that we do have campus carry. So ultimately, Texas may lose money over this decision. But will it make anyone safer? Only time will tell.
