Texas Tech Is Hard On Pot

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Texas Tech Police have a little discretion when they find someone breaking the law?  The recent police blotter I read from Tech certainly seems that way.....unless you're smoking pot.

The police blotter I read had a total of 7 people in the last couple of weeks being sent to Lubbock County Jail for smoking pot.  Sure, it's possible there were many more instances when the cops didn't send smokers to jail, but I can't comment on those.  On the same police report was a minor in possession situation and a severe assault where the people were apparently ticketed and released.

I know we're running afoul of some state and national laws with weed, but this seems a little ridiculous.  It looks like it takes just a little over four hours to get from Lubbock to the Colorado border where the same substance is legal.

I have now lived in Lubbock for almost 30 years and I've seen lots of students get away with crap that would get you time in the federal pen.  I don't see why pot smokers are being sent to county.  This is college.  This is where weed "lives".   It's just not worth giving someone a police record over a little smoke out.
