The expectations were high as was the excitement at the beginning of the year for the Red Raiders. I don't have to go over what has happened in the past, we all know what a sour year it's been.

But is there light at the end of this tunnel?

Short answer: In my opinion, yes.

Will it be a rapid turn-around featuring victories over all four remaining opponents: Texas, Iowa State, Oklahoma, and Baylor? Probably not.

But the Red Raiders certainly do have a shot this weekend against the hated burnt orange. I don't suspect that Kliff would let his players be unprepared for this one.

The six-year of the anniversary of the night of "The Catch" is Saturday night, and you know the Scarlet and Black is looking for more magic. Sadly, this game has much lower, unimportant stakes attached to its name. Still, it's a contest between two beaten and broken teams, and ultimately may be a shot at new beginnings in building for next year.

This may sound ridiculous and I get that, but really, I think to give all of us fans, the recruits, the freshmen, sophomores, and staying juniors any kind of hope for not only the rest of this season but next season, Texas Tech needs to win this weekend.

If the team can't have any big wins, let this weekend be the time they get one solid win.

As many of you may have recognized through the years of watching this team -- sometimes bitterly, sometimes ecstatically, but always proud -- the team always has that one huge upset; the one that always spoils the season for someone else. Beating UT at home really wouldn't be a technical upset, but it'd still be great for the program. Who knows? Maybe there's a surprise win over Oklahoma or Baylor in the cards. You can't give up on your team, they don't stop playing because you may stop watching.

The bottom line here is that this university and its fans will see a day where their football team is a true contender. That day may just be around the corner. You never know, folks.

Guns up, dammit!
