I've seen the confederate flags that say "heritage not hate" and I really wonder what these people are so proud of. It's kind of a mystery to me.

I have no idea why some people in southern states make such big deal about where they're from. It's no accomplishment of yours that you fell out of your mom in a specific geographical location. Many of these folks celebrate confederate heroes and the confederate flag. I don't get that at all. They may have been brave, but they were fighting for the wrong reasons and they were beaten.  It's like the people who celebrate Michael Jackson's music, but completely ignore all of the accusations of child molesting around him. I just don't get that disconnect.  I don't understand how you can be proud of, or celebrate something that is a symbol of wrong for so many people.  I certainly don't think you should be embarrassed by where your from or who your ancestors are either, but taking pride in something you had no control over, especially when it hurts other people seems like a dick move to me.

As Americans you should be able to fly the confederate stars and bars if you really feel it necessary. For state governments to fly it is a slap in the face to those who fought and won freedom for all. I happy that the great state of Texas declined to have it presented on licence plates. It's just time for it to come off the flag polls and into the history books. Here's more food for thought.

Confederate Flag: Hate of Heritage? Is the Confederate flag a symbol of hate or heritage?Correction: The Confederate flag has not flown over the the South Carolina State Capitol since 2000. It flies on the grounds of the State Capitol.
