I had this blog written for a week or two. Then today I saw the trailer (included) for the new movie "Everest" and it all clicked. Why would you risk your life, especially if you have a family, to climb a mountain?

You know, sometime magic just drips from my lips. Here's the key to not dying during mountain climbing-stay off the damn mountain. That's it, if you don't want to fall and break your noggin, get covered up in an avalanche or starve because you can't get down, is to stay off the mountain.

I have to say at this point in history, we've learned just about everything we can learn from mountain climbing, therefore there is no real reason to do it. This is the root of my problem with people who engage in "extreme" activities. They want the thrill, they want the danger, then they want help when they find themselves in a messed up situation.

Base jumpers, mountain climbers, extreme skiers, and heck, even people who parachute for fun, that's all on you. It's your bad if you try to cheat death and lose. Make sure your insurance is paid off and your family is taken care of, because you won't be getting any sympathy from me.

Like I said, if you're charting caves, or deep sea exploring or even studying plant life on high mountains in the name of science, you'll always get my support and my sympathies if something goes wrong. If you're doing it just because your jacking around or because it's on your "bucket list" then, sorry Charlie, you're luck just ran out.

Well, that's enough of my rant. Here's a new movie about a bunch of jackasses that go pokin' about where they don't need to.
