There Are Far Too Many Discount Clubs And Rewards Programs
Once upon a time, about 30 years ago. There was ONE discount club in town. It was the FMX Rockcard (and later the FMXpress Card). You could take it to dozens and dozens of place around town and save money. It was a huge hit and everyone had one. I guess at this point we should apologize for helping start something.
Now everyone in town has their discount cards, clubs and rewards programs. You can't check out without being asked if you're in one. I am over all of this nonsense. I don't care about even the good ones. I just want to put my stuff on the counter, give them some money or a card and walk the hell away. I don't want to answer a bunch of questions or enter information into the card reader. The thing that aggravates me more than anything else is having to give my phone number out loud to the cashier when there are people in line with me. I just don't like giving out my personal information out loud. Then there's also the fact that when every store has them, they're really not that special are they?
Let's also not forget that we're in a town with VERY limited choices on where to shop. Why have a loyalty program, if you have no choice but to be loyal? I know some of you enjoy the savings and the offers they send you, but there needs to be a way (maybe a giant "not interested" stamp for my forehead) so the rest of us don't have to deal with this nonsense.
