Of course, secession talk heated up after the U.K. voted to leave the European Union, but all you have to do is look at legal precedent to see it's not the same thing. Not even close.

So of you are taking that "Texas, It's Like A Whole Other Country" advertising slogan WAY too seriously.

Texans, we seriously have to get over our egos. First off, our state isn't in that great of shape. We are in the bottom of nearly every category for taking care of our people, specifically our children. (Proof and more proof.) Second, even if we were the greatest, the idea that we can secede is a myth.

Let me make this clear. Experts say that we cannot peacefully secede from the U.S. We can't just have a vote and leave. If we left, we would actually be rebelling, and that is NOT a good thing.

This has been tried in court before, and the simple answer is just like that of a gang, it was "blood in and blood out." You can do all your little Google searches of Texas "patriot" websites all you want; the law says it ain't happening.

Beyond the legal, there is the realistic. The U.S. would never give up a major port in the Gulf of Mexico. The U.S. would HAVE to fight for the port in order to protect the other 47 continental states from possible invasion.

How about those highways? How would you pay the government back for those? What of the government buildings? What happens the next time we need disaster relief? What about those U.S. military bases?

Then there's the little things like guarding our other borders, starting a military basically from scratch (no, just owning a bunch of guns doesn't mean you're in the army), issuing passports, coming up with our own currency, getting our own diplomats and so on. As ineffective as some of these things seem to be, we SAVE money by sharing a diplomat with the other 49 states. The idea that Texas would somehow be better off without the rest of the U.S. is insane. All you have to do is do the math.

It's time to call these anti-government people what they are according to the law: They are traitors. Straight up. After all, they don't want 'no government;' they want THEIR government.
