This Is How Most Birthday Calls From Moms Go

I really had no intention of sharing this beyond my personal feed, but apparently a lot of moms are like this.

So I'm just sitting there trying to find something on t.v. I wanted nothing more than a little light entertainment for my birthday. I didn't want presents, a cake or a special dinner. Just a little hour or so to chill.  Then this phone call happens:

*ring ring*
"Hi Mom"
"Hi son, happy birthday, how are you?"
"Oh pretty good, my guts hurt a bit, but I'm okay".
"You know know the family has a genetic disorder that causes a vein to explode in your stomach and you bleed out and you die and there's nothing anyone can do about it?".
"Thanks mom, you truly are the best birthday gift of all".

I guess this kind of thing is pretty common with moms out there. You're hoping for a little joy, but instead you get a little family history and a stark reminder that DEATH CAN STRIKE YOU DOWN AT ANY SECOND.
