Time To Put Up Or Shut Up In Local Politics
District One voters in Lubbock have one of the ultimate tools in democracy at their fingertips beginning today. Early voting has started in the recall election for Victor Hernandez. I am advocating that we send a strong message to Mr. Hernandez and to the council at large by voting him out.
Here’s what you really need to know. If you’re in District one, you would be voting “FOR” getting rid of him, or “AGAINST” getting rid of him. I just wanted to make sure you’re in tune with the wording on the ballot before we get down to brass tax.
Victor Hernandez was illegally elected. That’s a fact, but no one want’s to spend the money to prove the point. When he was elected he owed tons of back taxes to the city; that is in direct violation of the cities charter. In addition he has used loopholes in the law to not pay the mortgage on his own house. This man has no concept of how to handle money, so I can see no reason what-so-ever to have him in charge of our money.
Hernandez was at the center of a dispute that resulted in the expensive firing of our city manager. He offered no help or relief in our recent troubles with L.P.&L. I have had personal interactions with Victor and in my opinion, nothing get’s done unless it benefits Victor. I was personally given a “if I do this, what are you going to do for me?” talk from him, as if he were a mini “Godfather” type figure instead of a “public servant”.
Get rid of him because he’s a bad representative or get rid of him to show the rest of the fools on the council that we’re tired of their hijinks. We have an opportunity to show these people that they are not untouchable and that they will be held accountable for their actions. There’s no better time to do this, and there is no person who is more deserving of being shown the door than Victor Hernandez.
Vote “FOR” the removal of Victor Hernandez. District One can do better. Early voting is on now. The general election is November 5th. Bring a picture I.D.
