One of the things we see time after time is that people enjoy tension, then release (repeat). You hear it in music, read it in books and see it on the screen. For this reason, horror and humor go together like peas and carrots.

There's been a ton of light moments in otherwise scary movies, then there have been complete parodies like, well uh, "Scary Movie".  For this lost, I'm focusing on the movies that handled their humor tongue-in-cheek, but as a continuous part of an entire movie.

Some of this humor is manic and some of it is slapstick.  I would like to note, that I am trying to keep each movie on only one of my lists, so you won't find Zombieland and Shaun Of The Dead here, but rather on the upcoming list about zombie movies. So, here you go, it's the "Top 6 Must See Horror Movies With A Sense Of Humor".

    Cabin In The Woods

I love this movie too much. This movie "explains" every other horror movie. It tells you what there's always a jock, a stoner, a pretty girl and so on.  I found it incredibly effective, very scary in parts and a lot of fun. There's even a few second live action dance scene that mimics Beavis and Butthead. Now, the trailer reflects NONE of the humor of the movie, and that's part of the reason why it wasn't it wasn't marketed properly. The problem is, if they bring the humor into the trailer, it kind of spoils what the movie is about.

    Tucker And Dale Versus Evil

This movie turns the old "hillbilly killers" idea on it's head.  Tucker and Dale are blissfully unaware that anyone could think they are killers, and their accusers off themselves trying to prove that they are.

    Re-Animator

This movie is out and out nuts. It features a "sex scene" with a severed head. Was that  enough info for you?  Other than that, the movie is about a doctor who has developed an injection that brings the dead back to life.

    Evil Dead II

Oh, my old friend Ash. I can't get enough of The Evil Dead/Army Of Darkness in the movies or in the showtime series. It was this second episode that really brought a manic humor to unbelievably maddening events. Bruce Campbell overacts a bit for comedic effect (or at least that's how it seems), but I don't know how you'd not go nutso when the dead start coming after you.

    House

Once again, madness is played a bit for laughs here. A Vietnam Vet inherits a house and starts going cuckoo for Coco-Puffs. Ts it ghosts, or flashbacks making our "hero" bugnutty, or is it a combination of both? House is a really fun haunted house movie.

    Tremors

I got to give it up for Tremors (and its sequels). Not only is the movie fun, it has fun with some old stereotypes AND creates a totally new kind of monster. Well, maybe the concept of "sandworms" from Dune had something to do with it, but giant worms that come up from the ground to eat you is still pretty original.  Supposedly there's   a ten part mini-series with the original cast on the way.
