Top 6 Prince Tributes That You May Have Missed [VIDEO]
Today (June 7, 2016) would have been Prince's birthday. He would have been 58.
Many people dropped a little Prince tribute here and there after he passed away, and I've gathered some of my favorites for you.
The list is a little heavy on Purple Rain and Nothing Compares 2 U, but at least this way you can choose whose version you want to hear.
- 1
Bruce Springsteen -- "Purple Rain"
They just don't get much bigger than Springsteen (except for one guy on the list). Whether you're a fan or not, when Springsteen drops what he's doing to pay tribute, you know the world has suffered a pretty big loss.
- 2
Corey Taylor - "Little Red Corvette"
Corey Taylor opened his show with Purple Rain, but as this list shows, that was kind of the easy choice. Since that time, a decent video for his version of Little Red Corvette surface and it's a good one.
- 3
Paul McCartney - "Hi Hi Hi/Let's Go Crazy"
I guess you've made it when ONE OF THE FREAKIN' BEATLES pays tribute to you. Paul transitions from one of his own into Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" (with just a touch of Purple Rain in the guitar solo at the end).
- 4
Dixie Chicks "Nothing Compares 2 U"
Let's just say you're one of those knuckleheads who can't get over something someone said a decade or so ago, that still doesn't mean the song and staging won't give you chills for this one. Natalie NAILS it.
- 5
David Gilmour - "Comfortably Numb/Purple Rain"
This is one of the most tasteful of the tributes. Pink Floyd's David Gilmour slashes his way through the solos of Comfortably Numb then sidetracks into a bit of prince at about 4:41.
- 6
Chris Cornell "Nothing Compares 2 U"
Cornell was already making this song part of his solo show but it took on an additional bit of gravitas after the death of Prince. Here's a pretty good clip of him doing the track a couple weeks later live in Israel.
- Bonus
Freemont Street Experience
Okay, imagine you're on the Vegas strip and this comes on over your head. I think you'd immediately head over to a casino and ask where you could bet on purple.
