Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor has scored the soundtrack to the English-language remake of the Swedish film ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,’ and his version of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’ with Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O has surfaced.

Reznor wrote all the music with composer Atticus Ross, who he worked with on the Academy Award-winning soundtrack for the 2010 film ‘The Social Network.’ The full soundtrack for ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ will be released Dec. 9 and is over three hours long. A free six-track sampler can be downloaded now and fans can pre-order three versions of the soundtrack at the official Nine Inch Nails website.

One of the highlights of the mostly instrumental release is the harrowing cover of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’ performed by Reznor and Ross with vocals from Karen O. While the main melody is faithful to the original, it features industrial beats, electronic instrumentation and O’s distorted, haunting, yet sultry vocals.

“For the last 14 months, Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher’s ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,’” says Reznor. “We laughed, we cried, we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our careers.”

The remake of ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’ was directed by David Fincher (‘Fight Club,’ ‘Zodiac,’ ‘The Social Network’) and stars Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. The new movie and its 2009 Swedish predecessor were based on the best-selling novel by Stieg Larsson.

Recently, a Nine Inch Nails cover of U2′s ‘Zoo Station’ for an ‘Achtung Baby’ tribute album called ‘AHK-toong BAY-bi’ was released by UK magazine Q on Oct. 25 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the U2 classic. On Twitter, Reznor has implied that he would return to work on new Nine Inch Nails material after he finished ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.’ A new NIN album would be the first since 2008′s ‘The Slip,’ which Reznor offered free to fans for supporting his experimental 2008 release ‘Ghosts I-IV.’
