Lubbock ISD has announced that Coronado High School will host 11 students from Ukraine Thursday, January 7, 2016.

The students, hailing from the Ukraine city of Vishneva, will arrive at Coronado High School around 9:15 Thursday morning and attend an English class, a Journalism class and a Social Studies class.

They traveled to West Texas December 16, 2015 and have all stayed with one West Texas family during their stay. The purpose of their visit has been to experience American culture and to improve their English skills.

The president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, recently signed a decree proclaiming 2016 the Year of English Language "in order to facilitate learning of the English language to widen citizens' access to the world's economic, social, educational and cultural opportunities, to ensure Ukraine's integration into European political, economic, scientific and educational sector, in support of the Go Global, which defines learning English a priority of the development strategy."

We know the students were shown a big West Texas time and welcome and hope the term 'y'all' fits well into the initiative.
