War for the Planet of the Apes marks the conclusion of Caesar’s story, and the beginning of a new world. Whether that means a world of apes or humans remains to be seen (I mean, we know, but let’s just pretend). A new TV spot invites us to “witness the end” of the series, and of one species’ tenure on a dying planet.

The new spot doesn’t contain much footage we haven’t already seen, but what interests me is that one shot of a gorilla loading up a gun for the human army. There are bound to be some interesting dynamics there, with the humans maybe keeping some of the dumbed-down stronger apes as slaves to help them in the war effort. That’s gotta be bitter for Caesar and his troops, who have to fire on their own kind.

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters July 14.
