We have now had two incidents at the Lubbock ISD Ag Barn, and it's time we look into the situation.

First, we had dozens of goats shot and killed at the Ag Barn. And now, dogs are being blamed for killing at least 10 more.

This is getting a little ridiculous and the care of these animals should really be looked at.

I realize this is "country" and "nature," but if someone broke into an auto shop and tore up all the cars or if dogs went in and tore all the seats apart, there would be hell to pay. It only took one act of vandalism at Nightmare On 19th Street before I switched over to a monitored security system (that I bet cost less than 10 goats would sell for).

Let's not even get into the emotional connection some people have with animals; even if you just looked at them as a financial thing, or an educational thing, two incidents is at least one too much.

Greater care and possibly greater security needs to be brought in to protect these animals. The whole layout may need to be improved. Let's either do this right or not do it at all. If this was a real farm, the farmer would be out there with a shotgun. The whole goal in having this exercise is teaching kids responsibility, and we're not being responsible at all.
