Have you seen "A Christmas Story"?  Well, how that guy feels about turkey is how I feel about pecan pie.

First off, I'm a purist. I don't want chocolate pecan pie, rum pecan pie or any other variation. I like my pecan pie straight up, really gooey with a roasted taste to the pecans.   My friend Miss Sylvia makes the absolute best (and I've tasted hundreds, including custom made ones sent to me by ZZ Top). Miss Sylvia uses pecans grown and shelled in backyards right her in Lubbock. Now, I realize that you can't taste her pecan pie, so let me tell you who I think makes a close second.....it's usually United Supermarkets. Yep, I've had the designer brands and the gourmet variations, but for my taste, and that gummy, sticky, eat-like-a-candy-bar pie, I like United's house brand.

It's my understanding that the best pecan pie features a ton of eggs and is probably a heart-attack or diabetes waiting to happen, but I've always believed one thing-all things in moderation (except pecan pie). I know I'm not the only one. I once brought one of Miss Sylvia's pecan pies home, with just one small piece missing, and my bastard father in law ate the rest of the pie (and it was a full sized on too).

So, you know what I like. Who else has one I should try?  Oh, and I do like a little Cool Whip or even some Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla on top.

Okay, so I don't know about the recipe, but these folks make a real pretty pecan pie.
