You Can Donate Blood Now For Hurricane Harvey Victims

There is a well meaning but dangerous rumor about blood storage going on out there.

I have seen several people post that "blood is only good for 24 hours, so you should donate later". This is NONSENSE.  A simple Google search will tell you that blood supplies are good for 42 days with platelets good for 5 and plasma can be frozen and used up to a year later.

Let's look at the second half of the false statement about too. While blood is always and will always be needed, the emergencies are happening now, not weeks from now.
