Have your ever noticed that the smaller the town, the more they seem to worry about inconsequential BS? You can love small towns all you want, but there is a definite tendency for some people to put their nose in other peoples business. There's also small town bias, prejudices and a genuine lack of understand of whats important in the real world.

Coronado Junior High School in Plainview (please note, some reports claim this was middle school, but apparently it was the Junior High) is the epicenter of stupid this week for what happened to one of its students.

A kid named Kobi Esquivel went to school with pretty darn normal, yet stylish haircut. I don't think anyone at the mall would even notice the kid if he walked by. It's one of those haircuts where the part is slight exaggerated by being shaved. Even then, it's not much -- not even a half inch, no big deal.

Now, we can debate whether it met dress code all day. Some of the school's administrators said the haircut could be gang related, which is complete horse pucky. None of that really matters. What matters is that one of these administrators took it upon himself to color in the part with a marker, arguing that the hair cut was a "distraction."

Mr. Administrator, I don't know who you are, but let me speak on behalf of all FMX listeners. If you had laid a hand on my kid like this, there would be trouble.

This is just a blog, just my opinion, but I'm calling on Plainview ISD to fire this administrator IMMEDIATELY. They are obviously not smart enough to deal with children or parents. Anyone that would make this decision without contacting the parents is an ignorant fool who may make an even bigger mistake next time.

I would also say that Plainview ISD needs to review their disciplinary process for the kids. Please don't be distracted by the dress code issue. That doesn't matter. If the student wasn't meeting the guidelines (and he's had the same haircut for five months), he should have been sent home or faced some other disciplinary action.

I went to Brownfield High School in 1979-1980, and even they didn't do anything this stupid way back then. If you didn't meet dress code, you went home and a solution was worked out. You don't draw on a kid's head. Only a backwards, small-town person would think that was a proper solution.

My apologies to the rest of the people in the good town of Plainview. I know it's not the majority who act like this. It's those little zealots who get a little bit of authority and run around like Barney Fife with his one bullet.

Dump this person and get someone who is actually educated and smart enough to handle situations like this properly.
