Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel will be out up to six weeks after undergoing surgery Wednesday morning in Houston to remove the hook of the hamate bone in his left hand. He will start the season on the disabled list.

Gurriel was already going to have to serve a 5-game suspension for an insensitive gesture he made towards Yu Darvish. He will now serve the suspension after he comes off of the disabled list.

Gurriel hit .299 with 18 homers and 75 RBIs and recorded the final out of the World Series last year. He also started 130 games at first base for the Astros in 2017 in his first full season in the big leagues.

You can listen to the Houston Astros on 1340 AM.
