According to the 76ers blog, the Liberty Ballers, former Red Raider and 1st round draft pick injured his foot in a training camp yesterday and has returned to Philadelphia to get further testing done.

According to the press release from the team, "Rookie guard Zhaire Smith suffered a left foot injury during Tim Grgurich’s development camp in Las Vegas on Monday. He is returning to Philadelphia to be further evaluated and updates will be made available once a diagnosis is determined."

This injury isn't the end of the world for Zhaire Smith with the NBA season still a few months away but if Smith misses an extended amount of time here before the season it will be harder for him to crack the rotation in Philly and it will wreak havoc on the development of the rookie.

Hopefully this trip back to Philly is precautionary and Smith is back at it again soon.

UPDATE:

It was more than precautionary. Even with 8 weeks of recovery Smith should be available to start the season in the NBA with the 76ers but he might open with the G-League to rehab and develop.
