If you’ve been craving a TV show that feels like home, ‘Landman’ might be just what you’re looking for. The new series, starring Billy Bob Thornton, dives into the gritty world of oil and gas here in West Texas, and yes, it even gives a nod to Lubbock. Naturally, we had to ask our listeners what they think of it so far, and the responses are varied,

First off, there’s no denying the Billy Bob Thornton effect. Jennifer Griffis raves, “I loved it! You can never go wrong with Billy Bob,” while Jodi Haynie agrees, “It’s great! Billy Bob is awesome as always. Music is good too!” If there’s one thing everyone can agree on, it’s that Thornton’s talented performance captures the mannerisms, accent and style that we've come to know from oilmen around this area.

For some, the show’s connection to home makes it extra special. Lucy Maruca Chitty says, “I really like it!! Feels like home,” while Christopher Ray Peña notes, “Mostly just Tech,” referencing the nods to Texas Tech University in the show.

But not everyone’s sold just yet. Jeanelle Taveau Wadkins shared, “Liked it, but not enough to pay for Paramount to watch the rest unfortunately.” Meanwhile, Brittany Dame-Garcia confessed, “Never heard of it,” proving it still has some ground to cover in the pop culture department.

And then there’s the ultimate comparison: Jay Fitzwater boldly claims, “Better than Yellowstone.” Now that’s a high bar!

With its West Texas setting, rich storytelling, and Billy Bob Thornton’s signature style, ‘Landman’ seems to be striking oil with Lubbock viewers. Have you watched it yet? Is it worth the Paramount subscription?
