Little Things Lubbock Loves: The Hot Sauce Cups at Taco Villa!
Let’s talk about a local legend—not Buddy Holly or Stubb's. I’m talkin’ about Taco Villa. More specifically, the hot sauce cups at Taco Villa! That glorious little plastic cup of red gold. Spicy, tangy, magical—I say it’s the sauce that brings Lubbock together!

The Sauce is Key
We all know Taco Villa is a hometown hero. Whether you’re team TacoRito (like me), Combo Burrito, Taco Burger, or you’re loyal to the humble (yet mighty) Bean Burrito, the truth is…it’s that sauce that keeps us coming back.
Taco Villa locations in Lubbock:
Now sure, it’s great on the food they sell. Obviously. But let’s be real—Lubbock folks put that stuff on everything. Eggs? Absolutely. Pinto beans? Duh. I once basted a brisket with it. Didn’t go well, but I’d do it again in the name of science. I’ve heard of people putting it on popcorn. You do you, fellow West Texans.
And here's the best part: Taco Villa isn't stingy. You ask for one hot sauce? They give you twenty. No questions asked. No judgment. It’s like a spicy little bonus round in every brown paper bag.
That’s why we all have those junk drawers full of sauce cups. Or maybe you’re fancy like me and keep 'em cold in a Ziploc bag in the fridge. At work? There’s at least five rolling around in your desk drawer, and you know it.

There's a Trick to it
But those cups? They’re unique. Little plastic wonders with a peel-top lid that never opens right. So let me help you out with a quick Taco Villa Life Hack:
Find the side that has the longer piece of paper hanging off the end. (You're supposed to be able to easily peel it off the top, but it NEVER works for me. Also, I don't want to walk into work after lunch looking like I was just shot when the sauce squirts all over me!)
Place the paper between your upper and lower front teeth
Make sure your bottom lip is under the rim of the cup
Gently tilt cup downward while tilting your head upward and the seal will release. (This causes a little, tiny bit of sauce to get on your bottom lip, but that's what I call the 'flavor savor'!)
Pour liberally all over whatever you're eating!

Someone Posted a Recipe
And just when I thought I’d said everything I could about this local treasure, I stumbled across something beautiful: a homemade recipe from a Reddit user called “the_puppyfish.” It's a valiant attempt at recreating the magic:
Tomato paste
Water
White vinegar
Paprika
Salt, pepper, garlic, onion powder and a pinch of cayenne
Blend it, thin it, and pray to the Taco Gods above. Or, just save yourself the time and energy and get it from the source! Let’s be honest—nothing quite compares to the original.
So whether you're dipping, pouring, or hoarding in bulk...long live Taco Villa Hot Sauce!
